When to choose it
Choose Engineering for a toolkit you expect to use: situational explosives, utility devices and relevant goggles. It is attractive for some tanks and players who enjoy active gadgets. Check whether a device works in the content you play; world and dungeon utility does not imply arena legality.
First investment and budget
Price the goggles and devices separately from the cost of leveling. A character with little gold may prefer gathering first and Engineering later. Practice device use in safe situations so a complicated gadget does not distract you during a difficult pull.
TBC rules and availability
Goggle and recipe availability is phase-dependent; Anniversary phase 2 introduced epic goggles. Gadgets have their own restrictions and cooldowns. Read the individual item rather than promising that every explosive or crowd-control device is usable in rated arena.
