Protection Warrior in WoW TBC
Use an active tank toolkit and prepare for the dangerous moments.
Protection Warrior has a well-defined single-target tank toolkit and valuable emergency cooldowns. It is one of several viable TBC tank choices. Paladins and Feral Druids also tank bosses; a Warrior is not automatically the only legitimate main tank.
How Protection Warrior plays
Build threat with Shield Slam, Revenge and Devastate, maintain appropriate debuffs and use Shield Block for relevant incoming attacks. Plan Shield Wall and Last Stand around dangerous windows. Multi-target pulls need more active target management than a Paladin area-threat approach.
Leveling a Protection Warrior
Arms or Fury is usually more practical for solo questing. You can tank suitable leveling dungeons with appropriate equipment, talents and pull discipline. Group invitations depend on server population, schedule and reputation rather than an automatic queue.
Protection Warrior in raids & PvP
Choose Warrior if active single-target control and emergency tools appeal to you. Compare Paladin for multi-target pulls and Feral for bear-to-cat flexibility. Dedicated tank specs have limited arena damage roles, so decide whether tanking or rated PvP is your main goal.
