Protection Paladin in WoW TBC
Build controlled multi-target pulls, with mana and positioning in mind.
Protection is especially attractive for multi-target dungeon and raid tanking. Consecration and Holy damage provide an area-threat toolkit. It can also tank bosses with appropriate gearing; reducing it to a trash-only job is misleading.
How Protection Paladin plays
Maintain Holy Shield and suitable threat tools, position enemies for the group, and budget mana across consecutive pulls. Before taking on harder content, understand defense, crushing blows and encounter-specific equipment needs. Area threat does not eliminate incoming-damage limits.
Leveling a Protection Paladin
Retribution is often easier for ordinary solo questing. Protection becomes attractive for prepared dungeon groups and controlled area pulls, but those routes require equipment and suitable enemies. There is no automatic dungeon queue promising instant entry in this TBC setting.
Protection Paladin in raids & PvP
Raid assignments depend on roster and encounter. Compare Warrior for active single-target tools and emergency cooldowns, or Feral for bear-to-cat flexibility. In PvP, durability does not substitute for a coordinated damage or healing role.
