Shaman in WoW TBC
A totem-using hybrid with caster, melee and healing paths.
The Shaman toolkit uses mana and mail equipment. Its talent choice, equipment and group assignment determine how it feels in practice. Compare a leveling plan separately from the build you intend to use in raids or arena.
Elemental supports caster parties, Enhancement physical parties, and Restoration healing assignments. All three have Bloodlust or Heroism, which is party-scoped in TBC. Pick the combat role first; wanting to help a group does not force you to become its healer.

Elemental Shaman
A caster party can value Elemental support even when personal damage trails other casters. Bloodlust lasts 40 seconds and affects the party in TBC. In PvP, casting under pressure and surviving melee contact are major considerations, not just burst potential.
Enhancement Shaman
Melee parties value support alongside personal damage. All Shaman specs have party Bloodlust or Heroism. In arena, mobility and defensive limitations require partner support and matchup planning; a strong raid utility role does not guarantee an easy arena climb.
Restoration Shaman
Raid groups often value multiple Shaman parties and flexible healing assignments. Bloodlust or Heroism lasts 40 seconds for the party and is shared across all Shaman specs. Arena play has different survival and casting requirements from raid Chain Heal throughput.
