Mage in WoW TBC
A spellcaster using fire, frost or arcane magic and crowd control.
The Mage toolkit uses mana and cloth equipment. Its talent choice, equipment and group assignment determine how it feels in practice. Compare a leveling plan separately from the build you intend to use in raids or arena.
Use Frost as a reference for leveling and arena control, Fire for sustained casting, and Arcane for planned mana-intensive raid windows. A beginner can enjoy any of them, but a supported Arcane raid build is a different experience from solo questing with a small mana pool.

Use Frost as a reference for leveling and arena control, Fire for sustained casting, and Arcane for planned mana-intensive raid windows. A beginner can enjoy any of them, but a supported Arcane raid build is a different experience from solo questing with a small mana pool.
Arcane Mage
Coordinate mana support and cooldowns with your group. Arcane is attractive for planned damage windows; Fire can fit longer sustained encounters, while Frost is the usual arena and leveling comparison. A raid recommendation does not imply that every dungeon or solo situation favors Arcane.
Fire Mage
Fire supplies sustained raid damage. Discuss Scorch coverage with other Fire Mages to avoid redundant work. For arena, compare Frost control; for supported raid burst, compare Arcane. The useful question is which encounter and group plan you are joining.
Frost Mage
Frost is commonly chosen for arena control. Fire and Arcane are the more usual comparisons for maximizing raid damage. A lower PvE rating here reflects that trade-off, not an inability to clear dungeons or contribute to a casual group.
