Survival Hunter in WoW TBC
Traps, snares, and a thousand small advantages — you win the fight before it starts.
Survival trades raw damage for battlefield control: traps, Wing Clip, Scatter Shot and a kit built to lock enemies down rather than just burn them. It's the strongest PvP Hunter spec by a wide margin and brings unmatched crowd control utility to group content.
How Survival Hunter plays
Survival plays like a control-first Hunter. You maintain Hunter's Mark and Serpent Sting, weave Steady Shot and Arcane Shot in your priority, and lean on your trap and utility kit — Explosive and Freezing Traps, Wing Clip, Scatter Shot — to lock targets down. Expose Weakness talents reward keeping your agility high. It is the most tactical Hunter spec, built around never letting the enemy fight on their terms.
Leveling a Survival Hunter
Survival levels comfortably thanks to its self-sufficiency and control tools — traps and slows mean you rarely get overwhelmed even when a pull goes wrong. Kill speed sits below Beast Mastery, but the toolkit makes dangerous elites and multi-mob situations very manageable while you quest your way to 70.
Survival Hunter in raids & PvP
In raids Survival brings Expose Weakness and Hunter's Mark to buff the group's physical damage plus the best crowd control of the three specs, though its personal damage trails Marksmanship. In PvP it is top-tier: traps, Scatter Shot and Wyvern Sting give it control that no other ranged class can match.
