Gold and budget

Server prices and material costs determine value. Compare completed sales and your own spending plan.

When to choose it

Mining is a practical leveling profession if your route passes ore nodes and you want to fund a main character. It pairs naturally with Blacksmithing or Engineering, but selling materials can be sensible even if you intend to choose two crafting professions later.

First investment and budget

Judge efficiency by time spent detouring, bag space and the ore market on your own server. A node-heavy farming circuit may be worse than questing if competition is high. Keep some materials for planned crafting projects, and sell excess rather than leveling every craft speculatively.

TBC rules and availability

Mining grants no passive Toughness stamina bonus in TBC. Its value is economic and material access. A gathering profession can be the correct budget choice even when a late-game optimization list recommends two expensive crafting professions.
