When to choose it
Alchemy is useful when consumables are part of your weekly routine. Choose a specialization only after comparing what you actually craft: potion, elixir and transmutation demand differ. A transmute cooldown can be useful without requiring you to compete in every flask market.
First investment and budget
Price the materials, recipe and failed sales before calling a craft profitable. Gathered herbs still have a sale value, so using your own herbs does not make production free. Start with recipes you use personally, then test small batches on your server rather than copying a gold-per-hour claim.
TBC rules and availability
Mixology is a later-expansion bonus. TBC value comes from available items, consumables and specializations. Advanced alchemist-stone recipes and their availability depend on phase; do not spend a leveling budget on an item you cannot yet craft.
