Warrior, Paladin or Feral: choosing a TBC tank
All three tank directions can contribute to TBC groups. The decision is about pull style, equipment preparation, emergency tools and the jobs your roster needs.
Paladin: prepared multi-target pulls
Protection Paladin offers an area-threat toolkit through Consecration and Holy damage. It is attractive when multiple enemies need stable control. Mana and incoming damage still set limits: an ambitious pull is not safe merely because you can hold threat. Learn positioning and defensive gearing before using large pulls as a leveling strategy.
Warrior: active control and emergency tools
Protection Warrior gives a defined single-target toolkit with Shield Block, Shield Wall and Last Stand. It suits players who enjoy managing rage, switching targets and preparing for dangerous windows. Multiple-enemy pulls can demand more active target work. It is a viable boss tank, but not the only class capable of that job.
Feral: bear-to-cat flexibility
Feral can tank in bear form and deal melee damage as a cat when the encounter allows it. Separate equipment, appropriate talents and practice are required. Bear has different defensive tools from Warrior; cat adds positional and energy decisions. Choose one responsibility first rather than expecting shapeshifting to solve every assignment.
The first equipment check
Before harder content, understand defense-related requirements, crushing-blow interactions where relevant, threat resources and the actual encounter. A damage item with a higher overall level is not necessarily a safer tank item. Ask experienced group members for an assignment-specific check and use the class guide as a starting comparison, not a complete gearing calculator.
Choose the workload you want
Do you enjoy organizing pulls, explaining marks and recovering from a mistake? Tanking includes those tasks as well as surviving hits. If that workload appeals, compare your preferred pull style and roster needs. If rated arena is the main goal, a dedicated tank recommendation will not automatically provide the damage pressure or healing role you need there.
