Protection Warrior in WoW TBC
Single-target boss fights are where you make your name.
Protection Warrior is the precision main tank — less dominant in AoE situations than Paladin tanks, but excellent on single-target boss encounters where raw mitigation, Shield Block timing, and cooldown management matter most. The class TBC raid leaders trust on the hardest pulls.
How Protection Warrior plays
Prot Warrior is an active, high-skill tank. You build threat with Shield Slam, Devastate and Revenge, keep Sunder Armor and Thunder Clap up, and time Shield Block for mitigation while managing rage, with Shield Wall and Last Stand to save a pull. It demands more attention than a Paladin tank — hands-on threat and mitigation is exactly what makes it the trusted boss tank.
Leveling a Protection Warrior
Prot levels slowly — low damage means long kills — so most Warriors level as Arms or Fury and tank dungeons in Prot gear. As a tank, dungeon invites are instant. If you do level Prot you are nearly unkillable and can pull large groups, just expect grinding rather than fast clears.
Protection Warrior in raids & PvP
In raids Prot is the premier single-target main tank — the class raid leaders trust on the hardest bosses thanks to precise threat, Shield Block mitigation and strong cooldowns, though a Paladin outshines it on big AoE trash. In PvP it is durable but low on damage, a peeler and flag carrier with Intervene, stuns and Spell Reflect rather than a killer.

Blacksmithing crafts tank plate and weapons, and Jewelcrafter-only gems add the stamina and avoidance a main tank wants.
