Best Race for Warlock in WoW TBC

Choose faction and friends first, then compare racial abilities for your specific role and content. The recommendations below are useful starting points, not universal winners for every Warlock specialization. Party composition, weapons, talents and arena opponents can change their value.

Best Alliance race

Gnome

Expansive Mind (+5% intellect) and Escape Artist make Gnome a useful Alliance Warlock option — more resource and a way out of snares. Human adds spirit and stealth detection.

All Alliance options

  • HumanSword and Mace Specialization (+5 expertise with swords and maces), The Human Spirit (+10% spirit), Perception (increased stealth detection).
  • Gnome — recommendedEscape Artist (removes roots and snares), Expansive Mind (+5% intellect), Arcane Resistance, Engineering skill bonus.

Best Horde race

Orc

Command adds +5% pet damage and Blood Fury boosts your spell power, so Orc leads for PvE. Undead Will of the Forsaken is the premier PvP choice; Blood Elf brings Arcane Torrent utility.

All Horde options

  • Orc — recommendedBlood Fury (class-dependent offensive bonus, with a healing-received penalty), Command (+5% pet damage), Hardiness (+15% chance to resist stuns), Axe Specialization (+5 expertise with axes).
  • UndeadWill of the Forsaken (removes fear, sleep and charm), Cannibalize, Shadow Resistance. Value depends on the opponent and content.
  • Blood ElfArcane Torrent (AoE silence + restores mana), Magic Resistance (+5 all schools), Arcane Affinity (+10 Enchanting). New in TBC.

Warlock race for PvP

Undead Will of the Forsaken is arguably the best Warlock PvP racial in the game; Gnome Escape Artist keeps you free to cast.

Before committing to a race

Compare the racial with the role you will actually play. Expertise applies to matching weapons, spell hit does not improve healing, and a party aura depends on nearby party members. Identical party effects do not become stronger simply because several players bring them.

For PvP, decide which controls and defensive tools your opponents and partners make valuable. TBC racial mechanics can differ from retail or Wrath versions. Priest players should also check race-specific Priest spells; Fear Ward is available to all Priest races under the later TBC rules used here.

Appearance, friends and preferred faction can outweigh a small throughput difference. These guides do not claim that choosing another available race prevents you from clearing content.
